Born in Spirit River, Alberta, Goodvin took an interest in country music from an early age and eventually moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue his dream of making a career as a musician. Initially signed to Warner Chappell on a songwriting deal, he gained notoriety after writing a track for Luke Bryan's 2013 album 'Crash My Party'.
Fellow Canadian Johnny Reid then took Goodvin under his wing, mentoring him as a performer before he signed a record deal in his own right in 2016. His self-titled debut contained three top ten singles, including 'Lonely Drum' for which Goodvin won the Songwriter of the Year award at the 2018 CCMA awards. Goodvin then released his second album 'V' in February 2019 to a wave of critical acclaim under the Warner Music Canada label. His single, "Every Time You Take Your Time" reached number 15 on the Canada County charts. He subsequently released the singles "Lonely Drum" and "Boy Like Me" in 2021. Goodvin was also nominated for the Canadian Country Music Interactive Artist of the Year in 2020.
