Coming out of Waregem, Belgium, Aborted was one of the first Belgian groups to contribute to the brutal death metal subgenre since 1995 and became known as one of the biggest names in the genre. The group’s name comes from the fact that they wanted their CDs to be in alphabetical order at the very front of selections, and the name stuck from there.

The group’s first popular release was their demo tape, The Necrotorous Chronicles, in 1995, which was quickly picked up by Uxicon Records. The group would release The Purity of Perversion in 1999 and release albums every other year for the next decade. Popular releases include Engineering the Dead and The Archaic Abattoir from 2001 and 2005, respectively. The group has also recorded albums alongside Christ Denied, Misery Index and Exhumed in the early 2000s. The group has also had a long list of former players, with over two dozen players in their lineup since 1995, with the sole remaining founding player being frontman Sven de Caluwe.
