They are one of the few bands that infused R&B soul with post-punk.
The Afghan Whigs are one of the most famous bands to come out of Cincinnati. They were formed by members - vocalist/rhythm guitarist Greg Dulli, bassist John Curley and lead guitarist Rick McCollum who all went on to attend the University Of Cincinnati where they met fellow student Steve Earle while studying film together at school. It's no surprise then why this group has been recognized for its innovative sound with songs like "Algiers," which has more than 7.4 million streams on Spotify or even the more recent hits such as "I'll Make You See God" which came out in 2022.

The record received good word-of-mouth and gained relevance in underground music publications before making its way to Sub Pop Records, where they then released the studio album, Up In It, in 1990 and then went on a tour around the United States and Europe for the next two years. The rest is history.
