The inaugural event was held in 2019 at the 18,000+ capacity Chase Center in San Francisco, Calif. The first annual matchups included Stanford University, University of San Diego, University of California - Berkeley, Boston College, University of Arizona, St. John’s University, St. Mary’s College and University of Nevada. The tournament saw victories from Stanford, Boston, St John’s and St. Mary’s in the first event.

He joined the Warriors franchise as a player in 1960 and played until 1971. He is the longest-serving coach in Warriors history and was awarded the Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017.
