He formed his group, Aleks Syntek y la Gente Normal, in 1989. He released his debut album Hey Tú! in 1990, and quickly made a name for himself as a pop-rock artist. In 1999, Aleks Syntek was awarded the Prize of the Mexican Academy of Cinematography in the category Best Original Composition for Movies for his work on the soundtrack album for the Mexican film Sexo, Pudor y Lágrimas.
He also adapted Randy Newman’s original song for Toy Story 3 into Spanish for the film’s Latin American release.
