See the inspiring story brought to life on stage with Americano! tickets. Americano! is a musical production by the New World Stage Theatre centered around the true story of Tony Valdovinos. A native of Phoenix, Ariz., Valdovinos decided to enlist in the Marines after witnessing the horrors of the September 11th attacks. Throughout middle and high school he worked fastidiously to earn good grades and participate in sports as a way to increase his eligibility for the armed forces. On his eighteenth birthday, however, when he tries to enlist, he discovers that he is an undocumented immigrant and is barred from service. Valdovinos then sets off on a new mission to raise awareness of so-called “Dreamers” like him and the challenges they face in integrating into American society. 

Americano! features a score by singer-songwriter Carrie Rodriguez and choreography by Sergio Mejia. Rodriguez had previously risen to fame through her critically acclaimed album Lola, one of NPR’s top 50 albums of the year. Mejia has produced choreography for the Disney Channel, Xbox and Dreamworks. Americano! has been widely praised for its challenging source material, compelling message and spirited show tunes.
