The band formed in Tumba, Sweden out of the ashes of the death metal band Scum in 1992. They signed with Pulverized Records four years later and released their first mini CD, Sorrow Throughout the Nine Worlds soon after. The album was met with positive reviews and sold 6,000 copies.

They later signed with the company Metal Blade and released 10 more albums under this company. Twilight of the Thunder God, their second album, is considered their breakthrough record, reaching the top charts in the United States and across Europe. It placed at number seven of Revolver Magazine’s Top 20 albums of the year.

The band’s eleventh album, Berserker, was released in January of 2019. Though the group resides in Sweden, they have performed a number of North American tours that have allowed fans from the United States to bang their heads to their songs as well.
