Founding members Astrid Plane, Paul Antonelli and Charles Ottavio were originally members of the band, Red Zone. At the suggestion of the manager of Madame Wong’s, Plane paired up with Bill Wadhams of the Billy Bond Band. The two became the leaders of Animotion and helped create their first album in 1984. The single “Obsession” of their debut album Animotion ended up being one of their most successful hits. It cracked the Top Ten of the Billboard Hot 100 and was well received internationally. It was featured as the opening theme song to the WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event and for the Canadian television show, Fashion Television. “Let Him Go” was the follow-up single off Animotion which charted in the US Top 40 in 1984.

Many of the founding members, including Plane and Wadhams, returned to the band in the early 2000s following a decade-long hiatus. Recording disputes and arguments over writing their own songs caused fractures in the band. The original members came back together in 2001 to perform a sold-out show for 94.7 NRK Radio Station in Portland, Ore. The performance spurred the group to remain together and they went on to tour with bands such as A Flock of Seagulls and Wang Chung. Animotion released Raise Your Expectations in 2017. It marked their fourth studio album and their first album since 1989.
