The Sun Devils softball team saw their inaugural season in 1967 and shortly after were known as a powerhouse under head coach Mary Littlewood, who coached for a tremendous 21 seasons and a .695 winning percentage during her tenure. They went to the DGWS for the first time in 1971 and again in 1972, along with 1973 when it changed to the AIAW. When they became part of the Intermountain Conference, they went from 1976 to the 1979 seasons.
