Arkansas Derby Race Tickets
Watch your favorite horse as it comes from behind with Arkansas Derby tickets. The three-year-old Thoroughbred horse race the Arkansas Derby is held each year at Oaklawn Park, located in Hot Springs, Ark., each April. The race is currently a Grade I race and is nine furlongs, or 1.18 miles, and is run on dirt.
A Grade I race is the top level of Thoroughbred horse racing in the United States. The Derby became one after Oaklawn Park offered $5 million to a horse that could both of the races run on the track that were graded by the American Graded Stakes Committee, namely the Arkansas Derby and the Rebel Stakes and then win the Kentucky Derby.
The horse Smarty Jones would go on to do just that and collect the $5 million prize. Exposure from Smarty Jones’ performance at the Triple Crown popularized the races at Oak Lawn Park, forcing the American Grade Stakes Committee in 2010 to rate the Arkansas Derby as a Grade I.
