Matt Tavares was the original keyboardist for BADBADNOTGOOD but he left the band in 2019. They began working with saxophonist Leland Whitty in 2016 and he frequently appears on tracks with the band. BADBADNOTGOOD is known for their solid jazz foundation, though they always add a unique hip hop twist to their music, which has earned them fans from many different genres.

BADBADNOTGOOD has collaborated with countless hip-hop legends such as Tyler, The Creator, Ghostface Killah and Kendrick Lamar. Their debut album BBNG was released in 2011 and contained a mix of original songs and covers of songs by artists like Gang Starr and Joy Division. Their collab with Ghostface Killah Sour Soul was nominated for a Juno Award and a Polaris Music Prize. In 2019, they won the 2019 Best Live Act at the Libera Awards.
