That has been BalletMet’s mission ever since its formation in 1974 in Columbus, Ohio, by Daryl Kamer. BalletMet was previously known as Ballet Metropolitan and was extremely small starting out with only three staff and 12 dancers. By 1997, the company had expanded to 25 dancers. The BalletMet facilities are located in downtown Columbus and consist of a black box theatre performance space, seven dance studios, administrative offices and costume and scene shops. BalletMet has an academy that allows dancers of all ages to come and learn to be a part of their performances.

Sometimes in accompaniment with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, BalletMet has performed in venues such as the Ohio Theatre and the Davidson Theatre, both of which are located in Columbus. The company puts on the classic Nutcracker to the invigorating orchestral music of Tchaikovsky but also other productions such as Edward Liang’s Giselle set to Adolphe Adam’s score and Cinderella set to Prokofiev’s jubilant and lush score.
