Kekaula and Vennum formed the Bellrays in Riverside in 1990 out of the ashes of their previous group The Rosethorns. One of the Bellrays’ more successful albums, The Red, White & Black, was released through the Alternative Tentacles record label in 2003. The album saw the band establish their signature, avant-garde sound and develop a reputation for defying convention.
