Bif Naked is the stage name for Beth Torbert, an alternative rock artist from Canada who was one of the best-selling artists in the country in the late ’90s and 2000s. Torbert was born in India in 1971 but was adopted by missionaries and moved to Canada as a child. She studied theatre at the University of Winnipeg, going on to sing with a number of small bands as a young adult. In 1994 she released her debut album Bif Naked and began touring Canada after the release of her follow-up album I Bificus in 1998.
Torbert released multiple albums throughout the 2000s, most notably Superbeautifulmonster. The album contained her top 20 hit “Let Down,” and as Torbert’s reputation grew she began touring with several high-profile artists as varied as Snoop Dog, Sarah McLachlan and Green Day. The artist’s music has enjoyed wide use on television on hit shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The West Wing and Charmed, and she is also a skilled actor performing in many roles including in the film Archangel and on the show Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
