They first began playing music together in 1989 at Southern Illinois University. In 1991, the group made their debut recording release with their first single “Grandma Shampoo.” After the release of that initial album, The Blue Meanies gained an adamant fan base and would go to produce a total of four albums between 1991 and 1998. Although throughout those years the band members would change, their sound and success never wavered.
The Blue Meanies had become such a success that they signed a deal with MCA Records and release multiple other full-length albums including The Post Wave, which is known to this day as one of their most musically diverse releases. During that time, the band had seen more than 22 members pass throughout their rotation, one of which being Jay Vance of Captured! By Robots. In the early 2000s, The Blue Meanies embarked on an unofficial hiatus with a reunion in 2006 for the Riot Fest in Chicago. The band is back once again with all of your favorite hits.
