Boasting an impressive résumé as frontman of the bands' Joe Rockhead, Ugly Americans, and The Scabs, and with 55 Austin Music Awards under his belt, singer-songwriter Bob Schneider (born on October 12, 1965) decided to embark on a solo career right before the Y2K craze. Raised between El Paso and Munich, he started learning guitar and piano at a very early age. Following a stint as a charismatic bandleader for several alternative acts around Austin, Schneider started performing under the moniker Lonelyland, which then became the title of his major-label debut in 2001.
Combining country, folk, funk, and rock, the album gained considerable traction and helped pave the way for I’m Good Now (2004), which won Album of the Year at the Austin Music Awards and received significant radio airplay. In the meantime, Schneider released a couple of albums as side projects via his Shockorama label, most notably Galaxy Kings (2002) and I Have Seen the End of the World and It Looks Like This (2003). He followed up with The Californian (2006), When the Sun Breaks Down on the Moon (2007), and Lovely Creatures (2009), his first long-player for Kirtland Records. Propelled by single “40 Dogs (Like Romeo and Juliet),” the album received rave reviews and peaked at Number 140 on the Billboard 200.
In subsequent years, Schneider kept up a prolific pace with the breezy A Perfect Day (2011) and Burden of Proof (2013), which spawned the piano-driven single “Wish The Wind Would Blow Me.” Released as a series of three EPs funded by a crowdsourcing campaign, King Kong saw the light of day in 2017 and was quickly followed by Blood and Bones (2018) and the countrified “40 Dogs (T.B.M. Version)” in 2020. Grab Bob Schneider tickets now so you can experience alternative music live and in person.
