Bombadil first came together in 2004 in Durham after the members met while studying at Duke University. They named their band after a character in J.R.R. Tolkein’s The Hobbit. The group then recorded a string of demo tracks that established their signature sound, blending elements from Americana, folk and pop music styles.
Bombadil’s songs caught the eye of Ramseur Records, to which they signed and through which they released their debut album A Buzz, A Buzz in 2008. The release met with widespread critical acclaim and earned the band spots at prominent events like Pickathon, FloydFest and Bonnaroo. Bombadil has since released a number of further albums, many of which earned high praise from critics due to their complex, literary lyrics coupled with catchy pop rhythms.
