Johnson, and Josh Kaufman, is merging ancient, mystical traditional folk music with a modern, collaborative brush to produce an eclectic sound that spans across the United States from carnival fields in Wisconsin to a snowy upstate New York studio. During the rehearsals, each musician brought their own musical ideas to the table, and a focus on traditional songs from the British Isles emerged rapidly. They were inspired by traditional music and reworked old familiar folk songs. The band didn't feel weighed down by the obligation of a false homage, instead of feeling liberated to take risks and go places as they wished with their music.
