The Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra is a youth orchestra from Massachusetts and one of the oldest youth orchestras in the US. The Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1958, and each year auditions approximately 900 music students from across New England. Students are generally aged between five and 18, and the program accepts just under 500 young musicians to join the program. In addition to its standard orchestra, the BYSO also provides a nationally recognized instrument training program for inner-city youth called the Intensive Community Program.

Due to its size and stature, the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra receives funding from both the Massachusetts Cultural Council as well as the National Endowment for the Arts. Among its other concerts, the BYSO also produces a yearly opera in cooperation with professional singers from around the world.
