He grew up in South Bend, Ind., and attended the University of Notre Dame where he formed his first group, a Star Wars inspired band called Tashi Station before forming Umphrey’s McGee in 1997.
As a member of the progressive rock group Bayliss has released a number of albums including 2014’s Similar Skin and 2016’s ZONKEY. With influences like Led Zeppelin and The Police, the group has become known for their seamless jam band feel as they weave through genres from metal to reggae to folk and everything in between. In 2020, he released the live album So Little Hits, Too Much Time with Umphrey McGee’s Jake Cinninger featuring live performances of the band's popular songs in addition to covers from The Beatles and more.
