Forming in 1987, the Port Arthur-based duo first broke out with their EP, The Southern Way. With the album being well-received, this would be followed by a string of successful productions, including 1996's gold-certified Ridin' Dirty, which peaked at number 2 on the R&B Charts, and at number 15 on the Billboard 200.
However, after releasing their fourth studio album, Dirty Money, Pimp C would be sentenced to jail, leaving Bun B to explore a career riding solo. He immediately made a splash, releasing his debut album, Trill, which peaked at the number 6 spot on the American Billboard 200 chart, and No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart. Establishing himself as a legit solo artist, fans of Southern hip-hop flocked to grab their Bun B tickets.
With Pimp C coming back in the picture, Bun B would return triumphantly to UGK, quickly collaborating to create their commercial and critical hit, Underground Kingz. Released in 2007, the album made number 1 on the Billboard Hot 200 album charts, while their single "International Player's Anthem (I Choose You)," would land on the Billboard Hot 100 pop charts. Unfortunately, tragedy would strike in early 2008 after Pimp C would pass away suddenly, leaving Bun B to return once more to his solo career. However, he is still going strong, actively performing and releasing top-tier music, continuing the legacy of his late friend and partner to this day.
