Capital Inicial are a Brazilian rock band formed in 1982 who have maintained a successful career for over 30 years. Borne from the ashes of the disbanded Aborto Elétrico, the band formed in the Brazilian capital of Brasilia and continued to perform the blend of new-wave and post-punk for which their previous incarnation became famed. Debut AA-single 'Descendo o Rio Nilo'/'Leve Desespero' was released in 1984 and the latter was used in the film 'Areias Escaldantes', and their self-titled debut followed in 1986.
Second album 'Independencia' (1987) followed with a more pop style, however this failed to replicate the success of their debut despite an appearance at the Maracanã Stadium with Sting. This blip continued into their third album 'Voce Nao Precisa Entender' (1988) with previously hardcore fans feeling alienated by the group's change in direction.
In 1990, the band returned with more rocking guitars, harking back to their classic sound, on 'Todos os Lados' (1989). However, this seemed to come too late and vocalist Dinho Ouro Preto and keyboardist Bozzo Barretti both left the band. Replacement vocalist Murilo Lima followed shortly after and the group looked all but done for. Following an MTV live concert in 1998, the band reformed and were given a new lease of life.
