The organization was founded in 1997 by Larry Huggins and brothers Everett and Tim Rand.

The three created a scholarship fund to aid black students and created a weekend-long event involving students, their families and the black community.  The aim is to raise the bar of excellence and achievement. This is done through an itinerary of educational, cultural and other activities.
