Born in Clarion in 1971 to a musical family, Kirkpatrick turned to singing as a way to cope with his family’s frequent and severe financial difficulties. Through the encouragement of his vocal coach mother and country singer grandfather, Kirkpatrick was able to harmonize with songs on the radio by the time he was three.
As a teenager the singer appeared in a variety of musicals and other productions, even earning a place in the prestigious All-Ohio State Fair Youth Choir. In 1994 Kirkpatrick was introduced by a mutual friend to producer Lou Pearlman, who was immediately impressed by the young singer’s skills and offered to make him a member of an emerging pop group. By 1995, NSYNC was born. The boy band would rise to the level of icons, selling more than 70 million albums in the late ‘90s and early 2000s alone.
