Christine and The Queens is the stage name of French musical performer Héloïse Letissier, who made a splash at the 2016 Glastonbury Festival. Her debut album Chaleur Humaine was released in the US as Christine and The Queens in 2015 and reached number seven on Billboard's Heatseekers Chart. Released with the original title in a deluxe edition in the UK in 2016, it went to number two on the UK Albums Chart and the single “Tilted” went to number 20.
She was named Best International Female at the 2017 NME Awards. Born on June 1st, 1988 in Nantes in western France to teacher parents, she studied theatre at École Normale Supérieure de Lyon and moved to England where she developed what she calls "freakpop" and began performing with a group of drag queen musicians she dubbed The Queens. She toured America with Marina and The Diamonds and she appeared on the BBC New Year's Eve show 'Jools' Annual Hootenanny' at the end of 2016.
In 2018 she returned with a critically acclaimed second album entitled Chris, which reached number three in the UK and number one in Belgium. After teaming up with British synthpop icon Charli XCX for the 2019 collaboration “Gone”, Christine reemerged in 2020 with a six-track EP entitled La Vita Nuova, accompanied by a choreographed short film of the same name.
