The amateur baseball team the Cowlitz Black Bears compete in the West Coast League, which is a wood-bat developmental league, for college players and prospects to work towards playing professional ball. The Black Bears play their home games at David Story Field, which is situated on the campus of the Lower Columbia College in Longview, Wash., and can seat 1,230.

The Black Bears were founded in 2010 as an expansion team for the West Coast League, which was formed in 2005 and is composed of teams from British Columbia, Oregon and Washington. Their first head coach was Bryson LeBlanc, who led them to an 18-30 record in their inaugural campaign.
