However, in 1981 the group was as solid as they were ever going to be. Despite being turned down by EMI, they were snapped up by Virgin Records a year later. A further album and greater success followed before the band succumbed to the toils of the rock scene in 1987; Boy George's heroin addiction scaled new heights and his relationship with band member Jon Moss was on the rocks.
After serving four months in prison, Boy George celebrated his freedom with a series of concerts and in 2011 announced plans for a Culture Club reunion. They played two concerts in Dubai and Sydney and revealed their plan to release new material.
