Freyr was drawn to music at an early age and learned how to play piano, bass guitar, and the drums when he was still just a teen. He got his start as a singer after forming the band RetRoBot, which won the Músíktilraunir competition in 2012. Additionally, Freyr was named the Best Electronic Musician of the Year.
In addition to his upbeat live performances alongside RetRoBot, Dadi Freyr continued his work as a solo artist and was awarded second place in Söngvakeppnin in 2017 with the hit single, “Is This Love?” He debuted his first album, & Co. in 2019, which was released to international critical acclaim. That same year, Freyr self-released his hit EP, Næsta Skref.
Dadi Freyr tickets began selling out after Freyr sang “Think About Things” at the 2020 Söngvakeppnin. The song was an instant hit and peaked on charts in many countries, including Iceland, Belgium, Ireland, The United Kingdom and Sweden. However, he became best known for his 2021 EP, Welcome, which debuted at No. 23 on The Official Finnish Charts. The EP included two hit tracks, “Feel the Love” and “10 Years,” the latter of which secured its place at the No. 1 spot on Islandic charts and placed in the top 40s in Ireland, The Netherlands and Sweden.
