Founded by lead singer and songwriter Dan Lotti in Folly Beach in 2006, Dangermuffin quickly developed a regional following due to their interactive and often improvisational live performances. Lotti had previously garnered acclaim in 2005 when he won the Songwriters Hall of Fame’s New Writers Showcase. Dangermuffin released its debut album Beermuda in 2007.

Shortly after the release of the band’s sophomore album Moonscapes in 2010, Dangermuffin's songs began to receive widespread airplay on Sirius XM Radio, greatly increasing their exposure. In 2011, Dangermuffin won the Charleston City Paper Music Award for Jam/Groove/Reggae Band of the Year. They have since toured with high-profile acts including O.A.R. and Hot Tuna, and performed at prominent music festivals such as FloydFest, Jazz Aspen Colorado and the All Good Music Festival.
