David Halen was born in Ohio, although his family moved to Warrenburg, Mo., during his childhood. He was raised by musical parents, two violin players, and Halen showed an aptitude for music from an early age. Receiving his Bachelor's Degree in Music from Central Missouri State University at the young age of 19, Halen committed his career aspirations to violin performance. After completing further studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, David Halen received his first appointment with a major symphony orchestra in 1982 and became Assistant Concertmaster of the Houston Symphony Orchestra.
