The Delaware Blue Coats were formed originally as the Utah Flash and were an affiliate of the Utah Jazz.  In April of 2013, the Philadelphia 76ers acquired the team and renamed it the Delaware 87ers and relocated the team. The team nickname was the “Sevens.” The inspiration for the name was that Delaware was the first state to ratify the United States Constitution in 1787.

Caesar is named after Caesar Rodney, who rode 70 miles from Dover to Philadelphia on the first and second of July in 1776 to cast Delaware’s tie-breaking vote to ratify what would become known as the Declaration of Independence.
