The project, a moniker for singer-songwriter Shaun Fleming, launched in 2012 following a number of tours where he played drums for experimental rock duo Foxygen. Relocating to New York City, Fleming began writing and recording his own new material on next to no budget, using his voice memos on his phone to record a makeshift drum kit and using a detuned guitar as a bass.
The first songs he began to create in New York would become his debut album, My Friend Fish, which he released in 2013. Songs like “Hymn” gave the project attention from music fans and he began touring in support of the album. The following year, the project was featured on “Crown” by hip hop super-duo Run the Jewels, appearing on their album Run the Jewels 2. In 2015, Fleming released his second album under the moniker, Everybody’s a Good Dog, and eventually signed Polyvinyl Record Co. to release the popular Internet Arms in 2019.
