Higgins was born in Tarpon Springs in 1972 to musical parents. His father Bertie Higgins was a pop-rock artist who wrote the 80’s hit song “Key Largo.” Higgins played drums and DJed while still in high school, and continued to DJ while studying at the University of Pittsburgh.
Higgins found exposure through his 1994 mixtape The Future Sound of Hardcore, and over the next four years was commissioned by Suburban Base Records to release a series of electronic music mixes. Higgins’ 2002 mix reached the top ten on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Album chart. It was an achievement he would repeat again in 2008 with his album Substance D. Higgins has performed with high-profile EDM artists including Skrillex and collaborated with similar artists like Hive and Stratus.
Higgins is a decorated producer, having been nominated in 1998 for the Global DJ Mix Awards’ Best Drum & Bass DJ. In 2014 Higgins was ranked twenty-third in DJ Times’ America’s Best DJ Poll, and earlier in 2008 had been their highest-ranked DJ from the “drum & bass” genre.
