Roland was born in 1963 in Stockbridge, Georgia, and found a love for music listening to Elton John albums as a boy. Roland formed Collective Soul soon afterward, and despite difficulty finding recognition during the band’s early years, the group was eventually signed to Atlantic Records in 1993. Almost overnight Collective Soul rose to worldwide fame, primarily due to the re-release of their album Hints, Allegations & Things Left Unsaid.
Though Roland continued to tour and record with Collective Soul, he founded the Ed Roland and the Sweet Tea Project in 2011. The band released a slew of cover songs before recording their first album of original material, Devils n’ Darlins, in 2013. Roland receives praise to this day for his expert musical technicality and classic sound which nevertheless pushes the boundaries of the genre.
