The original group featured Scott Krueger on vocals, guitar and keyboards. Todd Bond did not sing but played guitar. Melissa Mattey mainly played keyboards and occasionally sang. Justin Smith and SeanTruskowski played on the bass and drums respectively. Elliot Root was formed in 2009. They began playing throughout small venues in Nashville. After growing in popularity, they began receiving invites to local music festivals. Soon enough, they were opening for bands such as the Zac Brown Band and Michael Franti & Spearhead.
Elliot Root made its recording debut in 2014 a short four-song release. The single “Punks and Poets” topped Spotify’s “Sounds of Nashville” Top 100 chart. It also appeared on Spotify’s US 50 Viral Chart. After releasing the EPs II and Thoughts from Yesterday, Elliot Root released their first full-length album. Conjure was released in 2017. The album amassed more than 20 million listens on Spotify alone.
