EPEX was founded by the C9 Entertainment group in 2021, though the members had previously enjoyed success on popular singing competitions such as Produce X 101. The band’s name is an abbreviation of “Eight Apex,” which signifies the eight members reaching the height of their success as a cohesive unit. Later in 2021, EPEX released their debut EP Bipolar, Pt. 1: Prelude to Anxiety. The EP enjoyed acclaim for its lead single “Lock Down,” and achieved charting success in both South Korea and Japan.
EPEX’s most successful release, however, was their 2022 EP Prelude to Love, Ch. 1: Puppy Love. The EP became a nationwide smash hit, reaching within the top five on the Korean charts. The band have since appeared on television programs such as Welcome 2 House, and earned awards such as the Korea Culture Entertainment Award for Best New Male Artist.
