He also enjoyed singing in his church choir. In 1987 Veikoso joined the band Rootstrata in Fiji but had to leave the country due to a coups d’état. In his more than 40 years as an artist, Fiji’s style has naturally fluctuated though always has the sounds of the Polynesian islands. He performs a fusion of Hip-Hop, R&B, jazz, reggae, and ska. He is renowned for having a smooth voice with a cross-genre and cross-cultural appeal.
Fiji has recorded more than 13 studio albums for a variety of record labels. His most notable releases are Evolution, Gratitude, Born & Raised, and Indigenous Life. In 1998 he won two Na Hoku Hanohano Awards for Entertainer of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year. He has also written and performed more than 11 theme songs for television shows including “Let Me Be the One” for Baywatch.
