The band was formed in 1996 by guitarist Jason Daunt and vocalist Chris Volz, as the two realized they had a shared vision of playing nu metal music, a metal genre that incorporates elements from hip hop, funk and industrial music. The following year Flaw released their debut album American Arrogance.
Flaw then began opening for high-profile acts like Econoline Crush and Fear Factory and gained a significant boost in exposure when their songs were promoted on local radio station The Fox. In 2000 Flaw signed to the Universal Music Group label, through which they released their first studio album, Through the Eyes. Through the Eyes was a charting success on both the Billboard Top Heatseekers and the Billboard 200. In 2004 their single “Recognize” was a top 25 hit on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart.
Despite a brief hiatus in the late 2000s and early 2010s, Flaw reformed in 2013 to give a celebrated performance at Louisville’s Louder than Life Festival.
