The band formed in 2005 when frontman Jamie Laurie recruited the other members with a vision of making music that blends both rock and hip hop. The Flobots broke into mainstream attention, however, with the release of their debut album Fight With Tools. The album received widespread radio play throughout Colorado, and the album’s song “Handlebars” was a top-three hit on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks chart.
Flobots then made the rounds on television, making celebrated appearances on Last Call with Carson Daly, Late Night with Conan O’Brien and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in particular. In 2010 they released their sophomore album Survival Story to much critical buzz. Despite a number of label and lineup changes the Flobots continued to tour and record, garnering praise for their turn toward social activism and political protest songs.
