Freekbass, formerly known as FreeBass, was born up in Cincinnati, Ohio and graduated from the Cincinnati School of Creative and Performing Arts. He worked in a music store to buy his first bass on layaway. He became immersed in the music scene and was influenced by the city’s music and artists, including funk legends Bootsy Collins and the King Records label.
Freekbass was given the opportunity to play with Collins on a tribute to Jimi Hendrix. He was given the stage name by Collins himself in 1992. Freekbass and guitarist Chris Donnelly would then form the band SHAG, releasing Bootsy Collins Presents SHAG Live in 2004. Freekbass’ debut album, Ultra-Violet Impact, was released in 1998.

In addition to touring, the release of multiple albums on his own and with SHAG as well as being featured compilations such as Freebass Vol. 1 & 2, Freekbass has recorded several instructional DVDs and was part of the London Bass Guitar Show in 2015, performing as well as giving a master class.
