Tividad and Tucker formed Girlpool in Los Angeles in 2013, bonding over their shared vision of playing a socially conscious, feminist style of alternative rock. They quickly earned acclaim through the release of their self-titled debut EP the following year, receiving praise for their similarity to acts like Kimya Dawson and Bikini Kill. By 2016 they were signed to Wichita Recordings, through which they released their debut album Before the World Was Big.
Before the World Was Big earned rave reviews from publications like Pitchfork and Metacritic for the album’s unique blend of emo rock, pop and folk-rock elements. In the years that followed, Girlpool took a more contemplative turn, releasing the meditative and trance-like What Chaos Is Imaginary in 2018.
