Girls Rock Camps are non-profit organizations that strive to empower girls from the ages of eight to 18 through music. Misty McElroy founded the first Girls Rock Camp in Portland as part of her senior project as a women’s studies major at Portland State University. In the years since, Girls Rock Camps have been established in nearly every major US city, as well as in countries as varied as Brazil, Canada and the United Arab Emirates. Camp leadership exchanges ideas and information by way of a governing body known as the Girls Rock Camp Alliance, which meets every year.
