Glenn Frey was an American singer-songwriter and guitar player who reached the pinnacle of his rock and roll career with the iconic band The Eagles and also had a successful solo career. The Grammy Award-winning Eagles were immensely popular throughout the 1970s with hits including 'Hotel California'. Frey co-wrote and sang many of The Eagles' hits including 'Take It Easy', 'Peaceful Easy Feeling', 'Tequila Sunrise', 'Lyin' Eyes', 'New Kid in Town' and 'Heartache Tonight'.
He and drummer Don Henley were playing in Linda Ronstadt's back-up band with guitarists Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon when the foursome decided to form The Eagles with legendary success. After they disbanded, Frey pursued a solo career as a singer with some acting roles in TV shows such as 'Miami Vice' and 'Wiseguy' and movies including 'Let's Get Harry' (1986) and 'Jerry Maguire' (1996).
He had several popular singles including 'You Belong to the City' featured in TV's 'Miami Vice', which topped Billboard's Mainstream Rock Chart in 1985 and reached number two on the Hot 100, and 'The Heat Is On' from the feature film 'Beverly Hills Cop', which peaked at number two on both charts the same year. 'Party Town' (1991) reached number five, 'Part of Me, Part of You' number nine, 'Smuggler's Blues' (1985), also from 'Miami Vice', number 13 and number 12 on the Hot 100, 'True Love' (1988) number 15 and number 13 on the Hot 100, 'Don't Give Up' (1982) number 25 and 'I Found Somebody' (1982) number 57 and number 31 on the Hot 100.
'The One You Love' went to number 13 on the Hot 100 in 1988 and 'Sexy Girl' (1984) reached number 20.
Of his solo albums 'The Allnighter' went to number 22 on the Billboard 200 in 1985, 'No Fun Aloud' (1982) reached number 32, 'Soul Searching' (1988) peaked at number 32, 'Solo Collection' (2016) number 82 and 'After Hours' (2012) number 116. He died at the age of 67 from complications following surgery for gastrointestinal problems. The Los Angeles Times said in its obituary that Don Henley had "credited Frey for being the chief architect of the vocal and instrumental blend that defined The Eagles".
