Though they make dance music, the duo is known to heavily incorporate elements from jazz and traditional African music. Peters and Poole met while studying music in Cape Town. They garnered attention after releasing their 2006 debut album Caught in the Loop. Goldfish went on to open for big-name artists like Fatboy Slim. In 2008 the group was nominated for the Best Alternative category at the first MTV Africa Music Awards. That same year they released their second album, Perceptions of Pacha. The album they put out the following year, GoldFish, would spend three weeks on the Dutch Albums Top 100 chart. The duo’s music has been featured in commercials by industry giants like Kia and Nike. The song used by Nike, “Washing Over Me,” reached number one on the 5FM Top 40 in 2012. Their 2013 album Three Second Memory reached 89 on the Dutch Albums Top 100 for that year. Goldfish were named "Best Pop" at the MTV Africa Music Awards in 2014, and they have performed at festivals such as Glastonbury, Ultra Music Festival and SXSW.
