Trube and Farrell formed the Greyhounds in 1999 following Farrell’s response to an ad Trube posted in LA Weekly. The two recorded and toured widely in and around Los Angeles, amassing a devoted regional following before relocating to Texas in the early 2000s. They became known for their unique covers of Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi in particular.
In 2004 the Greyhounds released their debut full-length album Liberty, which featured contributions by Robert Mercurio and Stanton Moore of the band Galactic, as well as by vocalist Ani DiFranco. In the late 2000s, the pair opened for American Idol winner Taylor Hicks, then in the early 2010s backed the band JJ Grey & Mofro. By 2013 they had been signed to Ardent Records.
