The band formed in Boston in 2012 after meeting at a punk rock concert, and quickly developed a reputation as one of the city’s leading DIY groups. Later that year they were signed to Feeding Tube Records, through which they released their debut EP Jeffrey Johnson. By the new year, they had won The Deli’s Best Emerging New England Band Award.
Through the rest of the 2010s, Guerilla Toss began incorporating elements from funk and disco into their music, releasing their first full-length album Gay Disco to much critical acclaim. In 2014 they earned a nomination for the Boston Music Award for Punk Artist of the Year. The band’s sound is variously classified as art rock and noise music, and they are particularly known for their intense, often improvisational live concerts.
