Its current members are Chad Gray, Tom Maxwell, Christian Brady, Kyle Sanders and Roy Mayorga. Gray and Maxwell first formed the band in 2000 after working together on the Tattoo the Earth tour. Drummer Vinnie Paul soon joined the group despite his struggle to return to music after the death of his brother and fellow Damageplan band member, Dimebag Darrell. The name of the band and the title of their first album Hellyeah was inspired by the group’s desire to create a positive and supportive space for their grieving friend. Their 2019 album Welcome Home features Paul’s last recorded music after his death in June 2018.

Over the years, Hellyeah has come out with six albums. In 2014, Blood for Blood was nominated as the Best Rock Album by the Loudwire Music Awards. In that same year, “Moth” was nominated for Best Rock Song, and Hellyeah was nominated for Best Rock Band. One year later, “Hush” was nominated for the Best Rock Video in the 2015 Loudwire Music Awards. Then in 2017, Vinnie Paul received the nomination for Best Drummer in the Loudwire Music Awards.
