Shaw and Mee formed the band in 2018, though had known each other for a number of years through their experiences touring in other bands. They soon developed their signature style that blends punk and pop and filled out their lineup by recruiting drummer Harry Deller and bassist Tom Paton.
In 2019 Hot Milk released their debut EP Are You Feeling Alive? as well as their singles “California’s Burning” and “Candy Coated Lie$.” The releases were a runaway success, and the group began opening for high-profile acts like Deaf Havana, You Me at Six and Foo Fighters. They gave celebrated appearances at the Reading & Leeds Festival and Download Festival before releasing their sophomore EP I Just Wanna Know What Happens When I’m Dead in 2021. Shortly afterward Hot Milk was signed to the Music for Nations record label.
