The Indy Eleven was founded in 2013 and originally played in the North American Soccer League before moving to the United States Soccer League in 2018.  The Eleven play its home games at IU Michael A. Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. The name refers to both the number of players on the field as well as the 11^th Regiment Indiana Infantry, which fought in the American Civil War. The team’s home colors are navy and white. The home jerseys are navy and checkered, paying homage to both the auto racing culture of Indianapolis as well as the Brickyard Battalions supporters group.  The crest on the jersey features Lady Victory from the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ monuments in Indianapolis.

The teams played a couple of friendlies against each other that next year and then met again in the third round of the 2016 U.S. Open Cup. This time the Eleven would hold on to win 2-1.  When the Eleven joined the USL in 2018 the two became divisional rivals. When the two meet, the games are called “Louisville-Indianapolis Proximity Association Football Contest” or “LIPAFC.”
