Born August 4, 1953, in Richmond, Indiana, Jeff Hamilton is a jazz drummer best-known as the co-leader of the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra. His musical career began in 1975 when he joined jazz pianist Monty Alexander’s trio. He then spent 1977 and 1978 playing in Woody Herman’s Orchestra. Hamilton then replaced Shelly Manne in the L.A. Four in 1977 and went on to record six albums with them.

In 1985, he co-founded the Clayton-Hamilton Orchestra with saxophonist Jeff Clayton and bassist John Clayton. Outside of those projects, he also leads his own trio featuring pianist Tamir Hendelman and bassist Jon Hamar. Hamilton has recorded with a variety of artists including Diana Krall, Benny Carter, Ray Brown, Rosemary Clooney, Michael Bublé, George Shearing, Milt Jackson, and others. As a leader, Hamilton made his recorded debut with the 1992 album Indiana. Other albums in his solo catalog include Dynavibes (1997), Hands On (2002), Symbiosis (2009), and The L.A. Session (2013).
